SMALL BUSINESS SEGMENT:
- Small Businesses are businesses with anywhere between 0 to 49 employees.
- There are about 5.5 Million small businesses in the UK which produce a total turnover of £1.6 Trillion.
DISCOVERY:
- For the project, I focussed my efforts on growth-seeking small business owners who want to expand their business and want to turn their small business into a medium-scale business.
- The Discovery phase involved secondary research and conversations with 8 subject matter experts and 13 small business owners.
- The growth-focused small business owners are usually younger, digitally savvy, and future-oriented.
- Through the research, I found some key findings:
- They are risk takers and take measurable risks in growing their business.
- They seek growth and business efficiency in order to drive revenue growth in their business.
- Their businesses usually operate on tight budgets and thereby are unable to hire the right talent to bridge the skill gap on the team.
- They use third-party business management tools but are unable to make sense of the data they generate.
- They are amazing at what they do, but they usually lack the right business skills to make better decisions.
